Old World Santa Figurines

Old World Santas The term ‘Old World Santas’ or ‘Old World Santa Claus’ most commonly is used in reference to the characters before the term ‘Santa Claus’ was officially coined. Belsnickel, Father Christmas, even Saint Nicholas figures have been referred to as ‘Old World Santas’, and most old world Santas have their roots in greater Europe. Our own Santa Claus, before he was so colorfully adorned by Hadan Sundblom and Coca-Cola, was often pictured wearing dirty and worn garb, and in furs, and covered in soot. These early ancestors to modern day Claus have also been described as ‘Old-World Santas’. Regardless of the true definition, they typically just have that ‘old-world'(European) look and are usually representations of a Santa or gift-giver of earlier times.

Beginning in 1986, by request of a friend, Rebecca began researching the legends of Santa and as with all history there is no end. Whether it is the beloved Father Christmas, the antagonistic Nisse or the feared Der Belsnickel, Christmas around the world is intriguing. The faces and hands are hand sculpted in clay and no two are alike. Vintage fabrics and furs are utilized in the collectible creations. Diligent searching at local thrift stores and yard sales produce unique and enchanting one of a kind accessories. The horse hair beards are a trade mark of Rebecca’s creations. Find one you like and I will create you a unique treasure of your own! Custom orders are my specialty. Call to order at 208-232-9456.
